The Process Of Elimination

October 1999
"The Process of Elimination"
Recorded at Rax Trax Studio, Chicago
Engineered by Andy Pollina

I don’t remember too much about the first time we recorded at Rax Trax. I remember meeting the owner but I don’t remember his name. Williams had much more contact with him cuz he had to go back to burn Dat to CD every time we recorded at DNA. Rick maybe? I’m not sure his name.Anyways, we used studio B which was smaller. It was real late. Our headphones didn’t work too well. And I hate wearing the headphones when I play anyways. The songs all came out pretty decent. I don’t even think we smoked weed or drank during this session. It was all work, no fun, no play. Andy set everything up. I don’t even remember if we used our own amps. Sorry, I don’t have too much info on this session in my head. Not too many memories came out of it. I remember Williams gave his original copy of this session to Rocky Suba. Thats about it.

I was going to Columbia College Chicago for sound engineering at the time we wrote this album. The only real friend I made in college got an internship real fast at Rax Trax. We came in real late one night and did 4 songs. We did 3 covers and an original version of ‘Mr. Pig’ that came out really bad. We actually recorded this session on huge 1″ tape. We came back later and recorded the whole album in one night in Pro Tools. We played the whole thing live with no overdubs and even brought our PA and mic’d it. We wanted it to sound as raw as possible. We were there until the sun came up. I remember coming home and my dad was sitting up watching TV at like 8am. I returned a 3rd time laying down more guitar tracks for Mr. Pig which me and Andy produced all semester long in a class we had together at school. Mr. Pig was not recorded ‘live’ like the other tracks and came out really nice.
