ye olde town inn is a super cool place. its been around a real long time, rob said his dad told him that he brought robs mom there back in the 70s when they were dating. they are pretty reknowned for their pizza which is extra crispy and id say actually worth the hype. in one of the best perks for bands ever, every band gets a free ‘za! fucking awesome. id be happy even if it sucked, but it dont, it rules.
we got offered this show thru a dude named voodoo thru myspace. i dont even think he is associated with the club anymore, he offered us the gig out of the blue. it was at a shitty time, it was the beginning of winter but it seemed like it was in the dead of the season, there was alot of snow on the ground which was frozen and it was super cold out. the enxt week (and for a few weeks after) it got way nicer ironically.
the bill for the show kept changing bands, in the end there were only 3. highball was supposed to play with us and they canceled. then our friends she likes todd showed up out of nowhere, they got booked somehow at the last minute! it was great to see those guys and hang with them, they were supremely awesome.
the other band was called the alien blakk. they were billed as being produced by dave mustaine (awesome) and also for being from texas (not true, they laughed about this to me and said they were from boston, dont know how the mixup ever got started). they were super awesome guys and very very skilled! the bassist played almost the entire show with a gas mask on! i knew they were supposed to be ‘instrumental metal’ and they lived up to that obscure genre. after 1 song i wasnt sure what to make of them and thought they were a fluke, but after a few more as i studied them and paid close attention to their sound i realized they really did kick Ass! crazy fucking music, nothing but guitar leads 24/7 with very occassional vocals. they also covered ‘snowblind’ by black sabbath and the drummer from soulfly came out of the crown and played with them! i am not very familliar with soulfly’s material but i looked them up to see if this was the dude and it was, i want to say hes played on 2 of 3 albums or something. pretty awesome, he was definately very solid on teh drums and you could tell these guys were having a good time playing the shit.
sat in a big chair in another room and half passed out, i barely even drank that night. on the way home i was just miserable, sitting on the uncomrtable floor of the van super tired and feeling very negative like an asshole. i really have no excuse for my level of garbageness that night.
the service was real good in the place and we had a super old waitress, she actually told us her age, i think she was like 75 years old or something and i think her name was mickey. she was deifnatley on point tho. the bartender was also super cool and even gave jessica some asprins cause she had a headache. i forget her name but she was super nice. they had some kind of wild special on pitchers for the bands, so we were breaking off anyone who needed some brew.
they had a bunch of arcade games and pinball machines in the corner which rocked. one was called junkyard and it was very complex, had a ton of minigames you could unlock within it, pretty awesome.metko being the pro at all video games that he is, was really tearing this one up nicely.
this was our last show of 2006 and we planned not to book anything for a while so we could keep writing. however as of today we have 3 shows booked already before the end of january, tho we have continued writing like mad, we are 70% done towards hitting up the studio to lay down all our new songs.
all in all, cool bar and had a good time, id definately go to see a show here or id play here again.
