Show #72: Mutiny, Chicago

i took off of work on Friday for no particular reason. had a great day off. Saturday was a pretty great day too. we met up at Rob’s at 7:30 and loaded up for the show. got to the Mutiny at about 8:30. we loaded in and were greeted by Rhonda and soon after, our friend Nikki(Kurt) who works Mutiny showed up. then we went across the street to get some pretty yummy pizza with very crunchy crust. i was looking forward to getting it all day. after eating, i was ready to start drinking. went back over to Mutiny and got a mini pitcher of beer and started doin shots of jager. band members get 3 free drinks a piece but i think i got at least 6. can’t beat that.

so Steve Gattermayer offered us this show a while ago and we’d been looking forward to it since. all 3 members are just great guys. it was fun hanging out with them and shooting the shit about bands and whatnot. we got the whole history on King Diamond and Mercyful Fate, Deicide, Cheap Trick, Kiss, etc. i can talk about music and bands for hours and so can these guys. and they know a ton of shit i don’t cuz they’re all older and have been around it all longer. Steve was tellin us about shows he’s been to and i was in awe. anyways…they r all great guys and were super fun to hang out with and play with again.

they played first. the bassist used my amp and rocked a nice 5 string. they played a real good, solid set of originals and very fun covers. i recognized 4 or 5 of the originals that they played the last time we played with them or that Satan has played for me off their CDs. they covered a few Kiss songs. Deuce, Detroit Rock City and Black Diamond. they also covered Blue Oyster Cult and we were all yelling ‘More Cowbell’ thruout the whole thing. it was great!! Steve ripped the solos and was definately entertaining on the mic. just a blast to play with again all around.

we ripped thru our set next and it seemed a total blur.

Figure It Out
Arnold Palmer and Katie Holmes
Hotboxed
Solitaire
The Limitation
Walter Mander
The Will to Kill
Studio Nightmare
Coming Down (originally by PITS)
Boat Dreams From the Hill (originally by Jawbreaker)

it seemed we played pretty tight and i definately had a lot of fun. Eorl showed up and took pics for us. thanks a ton for that. we reimbursed him with free merch. we were definately surprised to see him. he requested we play ‘What I Failed To Mention’ but we’re a lil rusty on that so maybe next time. There was also an awesome black dude who laughed at himself for being black and liking heavy metal but was aweosme and he stayed for the whole night and closely watched all the bands. my mic cut out for whatever reason at some point during ‘the Limitation’ so me and Satan had to share his mic Beatles style. i was pretty much done singing my songs anyways and we can do without my shitty backups.haha.

so it was definately a fun night. playing the Mutiny always is. u never know what to expect.
